A Canadian held by the Islamist group Abu Sayyaf in the Philippines has been killed in the island of Jolo.

Robert Hall was kidnapped in September 2015 along with three other hostages from Canada, the Philippines and Norway.  Mr Hall was killed on Monday after a deadline for a ransom expired.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeu statement:  “It is with deep sadness that I have reason to believe that a Canadian citizen, Robert Hall, held hostage in the Philippines since September 21, 2015, has been killed by his captors,”

The Abu Sayyaf was demanding P600 million for the release of Hall, Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad and Filipina Marites Flor.

Hostages are very  vulnerable. They are civilians that are held against their will for political or monetary gain by  groups of terrorists, like AbuSayyaf.  On the other hand  the government and military are called to rescue them alive when negotiation is no longer an option or a dead line expired, but so far, it looks like an impossible dream to realize.  We hope that in some way, in the future, this can finally happen.
