The strongest typhoon of all hit the center of the Philippines with 380 kmph wind speed. Millions of people have to be takaen to high ground and storm shelters in 20 provinces. Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda for the Philipines) lashed first the islands of Leyte and Samar surging up waves as high as more then 4 metres.
The typhoon is said to be category-five level powerful, which has damaged power and phone lines, and grounded air and sea transport. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that more than 12 million people are at risk from the typhoon. Haiyan has hit areas which are still recovering from 2011 storms and a 7.1-magnitude earthquake last month, the report.
