The largest proportion of Filipinos aged six years and older were elementary graders. 31% of the estimated 90 million population 6 years old and above, or three out of 10 persons in that age group, have attended elementary school but did not complete the elementary level. However, illiteracy in some rural areas still remain. To address the problems and to reduce the number of illiterate, PIME in Arakan has built an High School and implemented rural literacy in the far away barrios and chapel, specially for Manobo’s indigenous people.
