There are now pictures of the captivity of father Giancarlo Bossi. We can see them on cellphones, Tv and newspapers. Taken in an undisclosed place where there are trees of a young forest. He is wearing the same clothes he wore on the day of his kidnapping. The cinelas are red and new. There are rubber shoes too left on the ground. Containers of water suggests that they are hiking up in some higher places, maybe mountains, where the air is much thin and cooler. Other things are inside these pictures, but we do not care! We will never paste them in this Blog. They make us sad. We like other pictures; those of the day of father Giancarlo’s liberation!!
The mentality to abduct people have taken home in different places in our country. Somehow we feel that kidnappers are all over us, near our homes, families and children. A sort of evil that threaten all of us. On the other hand this threat calls us to strengthen our courage, the courage to overcome the fear in our souls. It is funny to hear how foreign people see us: as a country gripped by islamic rebellion, kidnappings and killing media people: for money and revenge. We have to overcome this image of the Philippines. We should demostrate that violence has no place in our culture. Violents are those who induce other to do evil, with words and example, with the promises of getting easy money. Violents are those who do not respect society, social duties, those who do not care for human growth, for youth and children. Indifference is violence too. Corruption is violence. So, what to do? It looks almost impossible tho face this culture of death. Is the culture of life dead too? No! The real revolution still in our hearts. The Government in order to face criminality and rebellion will implement its Anti-Terrorist Bill, copied from others. May be it can win some battles, but if we want to win the war we need the courage of men of good will.
A Day of Prayer exactly a month after the abduction of Fr. Giancarlo Bossi , so that “the Lord will give him enough courage, hope, and patience.” Day of prayer for his abductors too, in the hope that “God will touch their hearts and they will repent.” The proposal has been launched in Rome by the Superior of PIME (Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions), Fr. GianBattista Zanchi, and send in a letter to the PIME communities all over the world. The special Day of Prayer for father Giancarlo will be held on July 10.
Father Zanchi says, “together with the family, friends, and parishioners of Fr. Giancarlo , we are waiting with hope for the news of his release. However, we have to say that, as of today, no one has claimed responsibility, nor do we know why he was abducted.” and adds, “initiatives and manifestations at different levels asking for the release of Fr. Giancarlo are most welcome,” but at the same time, “prayers should not be forgotten: we are in the hands of God.”
Recalling the imprisonment of St. Peter, and of the “unceasing prayer” which the first Christian community offered for his release (Acts 12:5-7), father Zanchi emphasized that their prayers was answered and an angel was dispached [to free Peter]. Fr. Zanchi hopes that “our unceasing prayer togheter with prayers from other part of the world, will be heard and Fr. Giancarlo will soon return home, to the joy of his dear ones and friends.
